HMO Plans

Medicare Advantage Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plans provide a network of doctors and additional benefits to reduce your out-of-pocket costs for consistent care.

HMO plans are one of the least expensive options for additional coverage on the market. You are required to have Original Medicare (Parts A and B) before you are eligible, but you are not required to purchase any Advantage plan if you don’t want to.

There are, however, a lot of benefits to HMOs you may want to consider.

HMO Benefits

The biggest benefit of HMOs and all Advantage plans are their networks. A network provides a range of healthcare providers at a reduced cost compared to Original Medicare alone. This means lower copayment and coinsurance fees, with little to no monthly premium.

You will still, however, have to cover your Part B premium. But, with HMOs, you still receive all of the benefits of Original Medicare.

These Original Medicare benefits include basic hospital care and general medical care. Under Part A, specific benefits include:

Hospital Inpatient Care

Nursing Facility Care

Home Health Services

Hospice Care

Part B benefits include these and much more:

Cardiac Rehabilitation

Ambulance Services

Diabetes Supplies

Durable Medical Equipment (DME)

Outpatient Mental Healthcare

Physical Therapy

Most HMOs also cover basic dental, vision, and hearing checkups, as well as Part D prescriptions. Specific benefits will vary depending on the provider you choose.

Buying an HMO Plan

If you decide that you are interested in an HMO, you must shop around and compare available providers in your area. Since all Medicare Advantage plans are offered by private insurance companies, price and coverage can vary.

It is very important, then, for you to compare providers in your area.

Don’t Settle For Anything Less.
